The Income Stack

Disclaimer

The Income Stack is an educational planning tool. It shows you the arithmetic of your own numbers — it does not tell you what to do with your money.

1. Educational use only

Everything here — projections, scenarios, charts, dividend estimates, backtests, career examples — is provided for education and general information. It is not investment advice, not a recommendation to buy or sell anything, not a solicitation, and not tax, legal, accounting, or insurance advice.

Colo Transport Co. is not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, tax preparer, or law firm, and is not registered with or supervised by any financial regulator. Nobody here is your fiduciary. If you want advice about your situation, take these numbers to a professional who is licensed to give it and who is accountable to you for it.

2. Projections are models, not forecasts

A projection is arithmetic applied to assumptions — returns, inflation, wage growth, tax rates, spending, how long you live. Those assumptions are estimates, most of them supplied by you. The output inherits every one of their errors.

  • Small changes compound into large ones. A single percentage point of return or inflation, carried over thirty years, can move an ending balance by a life-changing amount. Treat any single number as one path, not the path.
  • Results are hypothetical. Nothing shown reflects an actual account, an actual trade, or actual performance. Hypothetical results benefit from hindsight, do not involve real money, and cannot account for the timing of your real decisions.
  • Past performance does not predict future results. Historical returns, dividend histories, and backtests describe what already happened. Markets are not obliged to repeat them.
  • The model is simplified. Real life includes job loss, divorce, illness, market crashes at the worst possible moment, care costs, rule changes, and decisions made under stress. The math does not feel any of that.

3. Investing involves risk

Investments can lose value, including your entire principal. Dividends are not guaranteed: they can be reduced, suspended, or eliminated at the issuer’s discretion, and a yield shown today is not a promise of income tomorrow. Any modeling of borrowing — including margin — magnifies losses as readily as gains and can cost you more than you put in.

You are solely responsible for your own financial decisions and for their consequences.

4. Rules, rates, and data change

The tool applies rules about taxes, Social Security, Medicare, and retirement accounts as we understand them at the time we write them. Those rules change, they vary by state and by circumstance, and our reading of them can simply be wrong. Thresholds and brackets in particular go stale.

Anything that materially affects a decision should be verified against the official source — the IRS, the Social Security Administration, CMS, your plan administrator, or your own advisers — and not taken from this app.

5. Market and third-party data

Prices, yields, distributions, fundamentals, and account balances come from third-party providers and from institutions you connect. That data may be delayed, incomplete, mis-mapped, restated, or wrong, and we do not independently verify it. It is provided as-is, for information, and must not be relied on for trading. Where a broker connection is involved, our access is read-only — see our Terms of Service.

6. Career examples are illustrations

The career episodes and sample plans are composites built to teach a decision, not portraits of real people or real households. Their wages, balances, and outcomes are illustrative and were chosen because they make a trade-off visible. Do not read one as a benchmark for your own situation.

7. No outcome is promised

Using this tool will not make you retire earlier, safer, or richer. It is a calculator and a set of explanations. What it can do is make the consequences of a choice legible before you commit to it — the rest is yours.
